Discount Personal Training: Is It Worth It?

Hey San Antonio,

I keep thinking about the commercial with $6 haircuts and the haircut guy across the street puts up a sign that says “We Fix $6 Haircuts” and I can relate. I meet so many clients who have been to other personal trainers and now, well, need to be fixed!

First and foremost, most of these discount personal trainers cheapen this profession. Unfortunately, many personal trainers are completely uneducated, inexperienced and sub-par, and while they don’t intend to do damage, they can’t help it.

It has always been my opinion that when you visit a personal trainer, you have the reasonable expectation to achieve your desired results. Of course, that takes work on your behalf, but it also takes proper guidance. I’ve been told that I push extremely hard and have expectations that at times seem unreasonable, but changing the body isn’t easy – in fact, many have called their drastic transformation the hardest thing they have ever done. Coincidentally, they often refer to it as the most rewarding thing they’ve ever done as well.

Comfort with your personal trainer is important, so choose someone you can work with, but also, choose someone that has a knowledge level to get you where you want to be, and someone who will tell you what you need to hear when you need to hear it.

I may be direct and I realize that I’m not the personal trainer for everyone. I am not “mean” by any stretch of the imagination, but I am honest when it comes to assessing your condition and whether or not you’re on the right path.

Never settle – time is valuable and once it has been wasted, it cannot be recovered.
