Body Sculpting Shortcuts???

Posted in General,Motivation by sanantoniopersonaltrainer on the May 6th, 2009

Hey San Antonio (and Austin ;))!

I just received a newsletter email that I’m going to now boycott because the title of it was something along the lines of “10 Body Sculpting Shortcuts”. Again, another misleading sales pitch.

In health and fitness, there are no shortcuts. If you’ve tried to reach a body sculpting goal and have fallen short, then you may feel you were doing everything the right way but just didn’t have what it took to change the way you look. Then someone fixes a few things for you, and you feel like they showed you a shortcut, when it really wasn’t a shortcut at all, but a more efficient way of doing things. That’s what I teach my clients – any shortcut you may find will not lead to long term results. At the cellular level, the body isn’t capable of highly rapid change. You don’t get out of shape in 2-3 weeks, so it’s unreasonable to expect a set of six-pack abs overnight.

Be smart, learn what you need to do to sustain results and to constantly make progress. It isn’t easy, but that is the reason why it is called “working out”.

Monday!

Posted in General by sanantoniopersonaltrainer on the May 4th, 2009

Hey San Antonio,

Wow, it seems like the better the weekend you have, the harder it is to get rolling on a Monday morning (especially when your morning starts at about 4:45am).

I was thinking about something this morning when a gimmicky Gold’s Gym commercial was on the radio: I run a very successful personal training business – no gimmicks, false promises, garbage promotions or anything of the sort. I live off referrals and I get those by simply taking care of people. I’m very proud of that, and I remember when I first decided to walk away from computer programming and system engineering to pursue my hobby full time, and I wondered how I’d make it. I knew one way: work hard and take care of people and do whatever it takes to make each and every client happy no matter what. I’m a high energy guy(my clients probably think this is an understatement), and I’ve always been willing to do whatever it takes and embrace each client’s personal goals as my own. That will never change.

If you’re looking for a personal trainer in your town, look for those qualities and interview them. Don’t settle – it’s your body, and it’s their job to make sure it gets to where you want it.

A Day Like Today…

Posted in General,Motivation by sanantoniopersonaltrainer on the May 3rd, 2009

Hey San Antonio,

Walk outside for 1 minute today and you’ll understand why I’m so passionate about working out, eating right and living healthy. I would hate to feel the need to cover up my arms or legs today. I took a short ride in my Jeep earlier and had the top, doors and shirt off – it was really great!

Use this weather to unwind, smile and relax. Use it to regroup. Use it to plan the next 12 weeks of your life. Yes, 12 weeks – that’s all it takes to become phenomenal. And it’s not just about looking good – it’s about feeling better, doing more, performing better and being a better friend, parent, son, daughter, etc.

There are no excuses: time, money, family – those are only obstacles. The ones that make the decision to adapt and overcome will succeed. Get fired up for Monday!

Friday’s Personal Trainer Ramblings – The Good, The Bad, and The Excellent

Posted in Client of the Week,Other,Personal Training by sanantoniopersonaltrainer on the May 1st, 2009

Hey San Antonio,

Today has been just one of those days with plenty of highs, laughs, clients reaching that elusive moment of “Oh HELL YES” and stuff that has just made me shake my head.

First, I just saw something on television that just doesn’t seem to go together: Kentucky Grilled Chicken. Ok, I spent quite a bit of my young life living in the Bluegrass State (it is Derby Weekend, by the way), and I’m sorry, the good people of my home region, for the most part, are NOT eating grilled chicken (love you, Momma). KFC, McD, BK, Wendy’s – they’ve poisoned enough people (I still blame the PERSON for eating it, not the restaurants), so the new “HEALTHY, LOW FAT” looks of these places is laughable. But it’s better than fried food, burgers, etc!

Went to pick up lunch today and that is when I saw a truck that had stickers on it that said “Personal Training for Under $20!” Ok, I’ll let that one speak for itself. I’m not saying price is everything, because Spectrum and Concord Athletic Clubs have been RIPPING San Antonio off for years, but a professional who does a good job and had a reputation of helping people reach their fat loss goals is worth much more than that. Time is valuable, and your body is YOUR TEMPLE – don’t trust it to an amateur looking to make a buck.

Finally, it’s “Client of the Week” day today. This one is tough, but I have to give the edge to Courtney (amazing work in your 3 weeks, Courtney) because in under 3 weeks (Monday will be 3 weeks) she has lost over 9 inches overall – and she started 4 weeks after having her third child. That’s a lot of inspiration for a lot of ladies that have let 6-12 months go by after having a child and are still having trouble getting the weight off. She told me today that she doesn’t have cravings, that she finds my eating program easy to follow, she feels stronger, sleeps better, wakes up easier, and most importantly has “never been so in-tune with her body”. That’s straight from her mouth, and in the last 3 weeks I’ve noticed a HUGE change in her attitude and most importantly, the things that were once extremely challenging aren’t quite so bad. Great job, Courtney!!!

Peyton and I are having a blast today. Cherish your time with your family and friends, and do everything you can to get the most out of it by being healthy!

Have a great weekend, San Antonio!
